Setup Instructions
Setup Directions for Connecting a MagTag™
As noted on the MagTag™ product page, the included batteries are provided for factory testing and will not have the same lifespan as a new, high-quality battery. For optimal performance and up to 12 months of battery life, we recommend upgrading to a reliable, brand-name CR2032 battery. These are widely available and cost approximately $3.
- Ensure Compatibility: Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest software version. If you are using an older device it must be running iOS 14.5 or later.
- Activate Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is turned on and your device is connected to the internet.
- Remove MagTag™ From Case: In some of our products your MagTag™ will be contained in it's case. Remove it for setup.
-
Power On: Press the button on the side of your MagTag and hold until you hear a beep. If your MagTag doesn’t turn on or provide an audible notification, it’s likely due to a depleted battery that remained active from factory testing. Please replace the battery with a new one and try the setup again.
-
Open your Apple Find My App: Place the tag next to your phone and select "Add Other Item."
- Assign a Name: Connect the tag and create a name for your MagTag™.
- Complete Setup: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.
- Locate Using Find My App: Open the "Find My" app to see your MagTag™ on the map and use additional features.
- Power Off / Reset: Hold the button until you hear a sequence of beeps: first a single beep, then two beeps, followed by three continuous beeps. Release the button at the end of the three-beep sequence (approximately 6 seconds), and the MagTag™ will power off.
Proper Placement of Your MagTag™
When finding an appropriate location to mount, place, or hide your MagTag™, ensure it can still transmit its signal effectively. If it is heavily concealed and restricted, this will limit its transmission range. Placing the MagTag™ in items like a child’s backpack or your laptop case will not affect its signal.
Mounting the MagTag™ inside a tractor for example would significantly affect its transmission range. For optimal performance, an external roof mount would be recommended.
For optimal performance, ensure that the MagTag™ is not placed in areas where its signal could be obstructed by heavy materials or metal components.
Replacing the Battery in Your MagTag™
Batteries are included for factory testing purposes and will not last as long as a new, high-quality brand name battery. For the best performance and longer battery life (Up to 12 months), we recommend upgrading to a high-quality, brand-name CR2032 battery. They are readily available and cost around $3.
- Replace Battery: Use a CR2032 button battery.
-
Open Tag: Make sure your hands and fingers are clean and free of grease.
Place the MagTag on a soft, non slip surface with the silver side facing up.
Gently press down on the back cover and twist counterclockwise a few millimeters to release it. If you're having trouble getting a grip to twist off the back cover, try using a piece of adhesive tape in a ring shape for better traction. A rubber glove can also help provide a better grip if needed.
NOTE: Do not hold device by outside edges and apply excessive force. You may damage the device. - Remove Battery: Remove and properly dispose of the old battery. A small, flat-edged tool (blade) is needed to carefully pry the battery out.
- Insert New Battery: Carefully insert the new battery, avoiding contact with the powered surface.
- Close Tag: Replace the cover and twist it back on.
- Check Connection: Turn on and check that it is functioning by using the "play sound" command in the app.
Tips for Using MagTag™
- Limitations: To get the most out of your MagTag™, it's important to understand its limitations and the external variables that can impact its performance. Please refer to our FAQ section for more information.
- Device Limit: A maximum of 16 MagTags can be associated with any one Apple device (Apple account).
- Identifying Multiple MagTags: If trying to identify multiple MagTags, use the "Play Sound" feature in the app to locate each device.
Troubleshooting MagTag
- If your MagTag doesn’t turn on or provide an audible notification, it’s likely due to a depleted battery that remained active from factory testing. Please replace the battery with a new one and try the setup again.
- MagTags, like all similar devices, have limitations and requirements to perform effectively. It’s crucial to fully understand these by reviewing the FAQ section, ensuring you get the most out of your device.
- MagTags are individually factory tested. In all reported cases of a MagTag failing to connect to an Apple device, the issue has typically been related to the users iPhone or network. After following the setup instructions, if you still cannot connect your MagTag, perform a factory reset. If that doesn't resolve the issue, a helpful troubleshooting step is to test the MagTag with a different iPhone on a separate network to see if it can detect the device.
-
Factory Reset: Hold the button until you hear a sequence of beeps: first a single beep, then two beeps, followed by three continuous beeps. Your MagTag is now restored to factory settings.
Turn on and follow setup instructions.
Troubleshooting Tips for iPhone/iPad
